Parts of a Flower
    (Encarta for Kids)
    (Powerpoint Presentation)

Do you love to see flowers? Flowers are beautiful. They make surroundings colourful. Today we are going to learn the parts of it. Please pay close attention as a test is going to be given after the discussion.

I want you to watch the presentation closely. And we will discuss the lesson after it is being viewed.

So what did you see? How many parts does a flower have? Can we name them?

Let us review the parts one by one and tell the functions of each.

Why is the petal colorful?
Which part is responsible for the reproduction in the flower?
The gumamela flower has two reproductive organs, what are these?
How does the flower reproduce using both organs?

Now let is try to recall all the parts.

If you have a garden at home and you see so many flowers, will you get it all and leave nothing? Why or why not?

Give the functions of each part of a flower by matching column a with b.

Lesson Plan in Science 4 (Earth, Moon and Sun in Space)

Lesson Plan in Science Four
I              -Tell the position of the earth, the sun and the moon in space.
II             -Earth, Moon and Sun in Space
III           -Have you seen the sun, the moon and the earth? When do you usually see it?
How big do you think the sun is? Is it as big as the earth and the moon?
Who can give us a good guess for each. I need him / her to come to the board to illustrate the difference.
Before we will start, let us first give meanings to the following words.
1.      Orbit
2.      Axis
3.      Sun
4.      Earth
5.      Moon
6.      Rotation
7.      Revolution
Okay let us try to investigate. The Sun is the center of our solar system. It is a ball of fire that illuminates each and every planet and heavenly body in our system. As we have learned previously that the solar system is composed of 9 planets. Each planet has its own moon. Some have many moons and some has only one. Earth has only one moon.  How does the earth move? Do you have any idea? How about the moon? The sun?
The sun does not move. It stays in one place. The earth is going around the sun while the moon goes around the earth. Just like this illustration.
Oval: S

The earth moves around the sun as the moon moves around the earth.
When a part of the earth faces the sun, it is daytime on that period. The other part of the earth that doesn’t face the sun is night time. The moon doesn’t have its own light. It only shines at night thru thye light of the sun. The part of the moon that faces the sun is the one that is being reflected on us.
The earth spins like a ball in its orbit in 24 hours. It is called rotation. That is why we experience the night and day.  As it rotates, it moves around the sun in a span of 365 days. This is called revolution.
The moon rotates and revolves around the earth in 29 days. That is why we have the calendar days.
IV         -Why do we have night and day?
Where did we get the word calendar from?
In what motion does the earth rotate on its axis?
V            -I will group you into 3. Please bring a big ball and a small ball. Also bring a flashlight.
